Backyard Ultra World Team Champs

🌍 What is the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships?

The Backyard Ultra World Team Championships is a global endurance event where national teams compete simultaneously from locations around the world. Each team hosts its own backyard ultra following the same format: runners complete a 6.7 km loop every hour, on the hour, until only one remains. Team scores are based on the total number of laps completed collectively, making it a true test of endurance, strategy, and teamwork.

The event was created by Gary Cantrell (aka “Lazarus Lake”), founder of the original Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA—now the global headquarters of the format and host of the individual World Championships. This race is held every second year, alternating with the team event. Local race winners who complete more than 24 laps and rank in the global top 50 may qualify to represent their country at Big Dog’s, competing against the world’s best backyard ultra runners.
